Dysport

Dysport is a wrinkle relaxer very similar to Botox. The desired effects are the same and Dysport is used in the same way to relax frown and worry lines and smooth wrinkles. The difference is in the dosing units. Dysport unit number requirements are higher, though this does not mean the product is less effective. It is simply the way the product is diluted and delivered.

• Time to effectiveness. Dysport is said to be faster-acting for some patients
• Diffusion "spread" may be better and thus may be more widely effective for forehead wrinkles
• Longevity - some possible increase in longevity but not determined to be substantial

How Dysport Dosage is Different

Dosing units are not comparative to Botox. An average conversion is between 2 to 2.5 units of Dysport to 1 unit of Botox. Your treatment with Dysport will use an equivalent amount of the neuroprotein. As with Botox, individual requirements will vary with men generally requiring more units for full effect than the units required by women.
For those who have developed antibodies to Botox which makes it no longer effective or less effective, Dysport is a welcome addition to the wrinkle-fighting arsenal.

Is Dysport Better?

Dysport and Botox are so closely matched in effect, there is no determination of one being better than the other. Sometimes it will be a matter of choice and Dr. Fitzgerald will suggest one or the other dependant upon area of use. In some cases, she may both products but in different areas.

Dysport effects last around 3 to 6 months, depending upon the location of the injection, your muscle activity and your body's individual response.

Dysport is distributed by Medicis, the same company which supplies Restylane and Perlane. It was developed by Ipsen, a global pharmaceutical developer headquartered in France and has been used medically since 1991.
